 What is software?

A computer software is a a collection of programs and procedures that instructs a computer how to perform different types of tasks.  In a simple language," a software is that which we cannot touch and feel"
For example: In todays world we use alot of digital devices for example smart watch, Mobile phones, Digital cameras, Smart Tv etc. all of these are just like an empty box if there is no software iniside this. Software is that which we seen on our  computer screen, mobile screen etc. From calulator to every single app which you use on your devices all of these are softwares. A software enhances the capability of the hardware and directs the computer to perform  operations like Input, Processing and Output. 





A software can be classified into two types:

1. Application Software

2. System Software


System-Software:

It is a collection of one or more program, which are designed to control the overall operation and performance of a computer system. A system software acts as an interface between the user and the computer. For example: You install antivirus on your computer system  is an example of system software.
A system software can be classified into the following catagories:
  1. Operating System: Like  Windows, Mac, Android, linux etc.
  2. Device drivers
  3. Language Processors
  4. Utility Software: Like Quick Heal Anti Virus

Application-Software:

Application software is a set of programs, developed by programmers in order to perform specific tasks. These kind of softwares also called packages. Some examples  of application softwares are:
1. Word Processing Softwares: like ms-word
2.Presentation Softwares: like ms-powerpoint
3. Desktop Publishing Softwares: like Page maker 
4. Data Base Managment System: like ms-excel
5. Multimedia softwares: like audacity, wondershare filmora etc.
6. Specific purpose softwares: like Tally
or many other types like attendance system, reservation system, billing system etc are the types of application softwares.

Customized Softwares:

People can also develop specific softwares for their organisations. Such kind of softwares are called customized softwares.

Input and Output Devices

  Input Devices Input refers to the data or instructions which we feed  into a computer. Input devices are used to enrer data and information into a computer. The input unit converts the incoming data and instructions into a pattern of binary codes which is understood by a computer. Then it further supplies data to the processor for processing.
